Kaitlyn's First Feis

Last weekend, Kaitlyn participated in her First Feis. In Irish Dancing terminology, that means competition. There was a large Irish Dancing competition in downtown St. Louis called the St. Louis Winter Feis. This was her first experience with this type of judged dancing. She was dancing in 2 categories: Light Jig and Reel. These are the two dances that she has been learning in her classes. She competed at the beginner 1 level.Because I am still recovering from my surgery, I was unable to attend the feis, so Brian took her and was the perfect "Dance Dad"! Below are two pictures he took with his phone.
Here is Kaitlyn before taking the stage for her first dance, the Reel.

Here is Kaitlyn after performing both of her dances. She received 1st place in her jig and 2nd place in her reel. We are so incredibly proud of her! To place in both of her dances at her first feis is quite an acheivement! She will be perfomraning at another arts event next weekend so I am hoping to have more pictures and video to post. Her next feis will likely be this summer sometime.

A weekend in the city...

Kaitlyn has her first Irish dance feis here in downtown Atlanta. We decided to make a weekend of it (she dances today and tomorrow) and spend the night at the hotel where the feis is being held. We started very early this morning with Kaitlyn dancing just before 9am! She did amazing and placed in both her dances (second in jig; 3rd in reel). After she finished dancing we headed to the children's museum of Atlanta. The kids had a blast trying all the cool things to do. Then we grabbed some lunch in centennial park (it's 65 degrees here so we ate outside!!) and then hit the aquarium. The kids are excited to swim at the indoor pool later and then it's more dancing in the morning!

Kaitlyn's first ATL Irish Dance performance

Since moving to Atlanta, the kids had to get involved in their activities down here. Kaitlyn started Irish dancing at Mulligan School back in August. She competed in her first Southern Region Feisanna in November. Tonight, she performed at her first community event with some of the other girls from the dance studio. She did fantastic. I took several pictures as well as a video of her dancing with the other girls. She will be doing many more performances as she made the Tara Dance Company (which is a handpicked dance team that travels the city in the Spring doing performances). We are quite proud of our little Irish dancer and can't wait to see where her dancing takes us! Here is the video...
