Stone Mountain Park: Stone Mountain Christmas

Since living in Atlanta, we have been wanting to go to Stone Mountain Park. It's about an hour from our house, just outside the city of Atlanta.
We had planned to go for their Pumpkin Festival in October, but time got away from us. Since they start their Christmas festivities early, we decided to take advantage of the free Saturday we had and go yesterday. The Christmas activities didn't start until around 2pm, so we headed there after lunch to check out the scene. We started with the Summit Skyride - a ride to the top of Stone Mountain. The mountain itself is a dome of granite that's sits at 1,686 ft above sea level. On the side of the mountain is a carving that depicts three figures of the Confederate States of America: Stonewall Jackson, Robert E. Lee, and Jefferson Davis.
We were able to exit the skyride and walk around on top of the mountain. It was quite windy up there!
Then we headed down the mountain to check out some of the happenings at the Crossroads where the Stone Mountain Christmas festivities were starting. We started with the Polar Express 4-D experience. The kids loved this short depiction of the movie with 4-D effects!
We got to meet the Snow Angel where the kids got their pictures taken with her and her soldier guards. The park also had The Great Barn! It was an indoor place for kids to go and play and run and have a good time. There were climbing structures, slides, and all sorts of interactive games! The kids loved this!
The kids got the meet Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, listen to Mrs. Claus tell stories and sing carols and we even took a sing-along train ride around the mountain. The lights were beautiful, too!
We will definitely be going to back to Stone Mountain to see what else they have to offer during the other seasons of the year.

Project 5 Task 1

What are the benefits of blogging for students?  There are many benefits of blogging for students. Students can use blogging to express what they have learned about a specific topic in the classroom. For example, students have been learning about marine animals in science class. Students have been following the nesting of sea turtles in Hilton Head Island. They have each chosen a nest and have been following it on their website. Every few days, students read the progress of the nest online and then create a blog post on what they read and include images to share with their classmates.  Another benefit to students blogging is for them to be able to express themselves creatively. Students can create a weekly poem blog post where they find a poem they like, copy it to their blog post (citing the author and resource where they found it) and then summarize the poem and write about why they chose it and what they liked most about it.  Click the link below to access the Pr...

12 Days of Pinterest: Day 8

Day 8: 12/17/12 Ok, so I apologize for the break in my "12 days of Pinterest" posts. My parents were in from Ohio the last 5 days and we were busy celebrating Christmas (early) and doing all the St. Louis holiday things there are to do (lights, train displays, Christmas concerts....you know!). Today I am doing a something that when I saw it on Pinterest - I knew I HAD to do it! We have a ton of ornaments. They are currently on our tree (duh) but when they are in storage the other 11 months of the year, they are kept wrapped in tatty tissue paper in shirt boxes that are falling apart. Every year I say "I am going to get one of those "ornament organizers" (the ones you see at Target and Home Depot)....and every year when I go to buy one, I go into sticker shock! How can a piece of plastic that holds 12 ornaments be $20! Of course we have more than a dozen ornaments, so I went on a hunt for something cheaper! Here it is! It cost me $2.50 to make. I used cardboa...
