So today, Monday January 16, 2012, was just another ordinary day for us. Kaitlyn doesn't normally go to school on Mondays, so school being off didn't make our day any different. The one thing that did make our mid-January day different was that at 9am it was 50 degrees...and rising! We made it to the park a little before 10am and met up with friends or a nice walk and then playtime at the playground! it was so nice to be outside and enjoy the fresh air - in January! We are usually all cooped up in the house because of the figid temperatures, snow and/or ice, so it was a nice change to be able to enjoy the outdoors.
After a fun morning at the park, we sure worked up an appetite! I've been struggling with how to make my kids' lunches more creative. Brady really likes peanut butter sandwiches, but he likes to take it apart and eat it
"open-faced" which is a real mess! For Christmas a few years ago, I got a tub of 100 cookie cutters - I broke them out and found a dinosaur shape, and BINGO! A Dinosaur PB sandwich! He loved it and ate 2! The kids never eat the crust of the bread anyway, so it's the perfect solution! Kaitlyn had a grilled cheese sandwich and chose a bear shape. I see me using a lot of shapes in our future - and not just for sandwiches; I saw cookie cutters used to cut shapes out of slices of watermelon, canteloupe and even pineapple! SO SO FUN!
