12 Days of Pinterest: Day 8

Day 8: 12/17/12
Ok, so I apologize for the break in my "12 days of Pinterest" posts. My parents were in from Ohio the last 5 days and we were busy celebrating Christmas (early) and doing all the St. Louis holiday things there are to do (lights, train displays, Christmas concerts....you know!).

Today I am doing a something that when I saw it on Pinterest - I knew I HAD to do it! We have a ton of ornaments. They are currently on our tree (duh) but when they are in storage the other 11 months of the year, they are kept wrapped in tatty tissue paper in shirt boxes that are falling apart. Every year I say "I am going to get one of those "ornament organizers" (the ones you see at Target and Home Depot)....and every year when I go to buy one, I go into sticker shock! How can a piece of plastic that holds 12 ornaments be $20! Of course we have more than a dozen ornaments, so I went on a hunt for something cheaper! Here it is! It cost me $2.50 to make. I used cardboard (that I keep from my scrapbook kits), hot glue and party cocktail glasses (this was all I had to buy). Here's how to make one.
Mine holds 25 ornaments - because that was all the cups I bought. I will be buying more cups and larger cups to hold those taller ornaments. For the flat or oddly shaped ornaments, I'll be buying Christmas boxes (the square decorative ones) on clearance the day after Christmas to store those and I will also replace my tatty tissue paper....
Gather materials...

Arrange cups on cardboard

Glue cups to cardboard

place ornaments in cups and stack to store!

A weekend in the city...

Kaitlyn has her first Irish dance feis here in downtown Atlanta. We decided to make a weekend of it (she dances today and tomorrow) and spend the night at the hotel where the feis is being held. We started very early this morning with Kaitlyn dancing just before 9am! She did amazing and placed in both her dances (second in jig; 3rd in reel). After she finished dancing we headed to the children's museum of Atlanta. The kids had a blast trying all the cool things to do. Then we grabbed some lunch in centennial park (it's 65 degrees here so we ate outside!!) and then hit the aquarium. The kids are excited to swim at the indoor pool later and then it's more dancing in the morning!

Kaitlyn's first ATL Irish Dance performance

Since moving to Atlanta, the kids had to get involved in their activities down here. Kaitlyn started Irish dancing at Mulligan School back in August. She competed in her first Southern Region Feisanna in November. Tonight, she performed at her first community event with some of the other girls from the dance studio. She did fantastic. I took several pictures as well as a video of her dancing with the other girls. She will be doing many more performances as she made the Tara Dance Company (which is a handpicked dance team that travels the city in the Spring doing performances). We are quite proud of our little Irish dancer and can't wait to see where her dancing takes us! Here is the video...
